About the Michael Phelps Foundation
Founded in 2008 by Swimming champion Michael Phelps, the Michael Phelps Foundation is dedicated to promoting water safety and helping children become confident swimmers. Through programs like IM Swim, the Foundation works to educate individuals of all ages about the importance of water safety, healthy living, mental health and swimming.
The Michael Phelps Foundation is determined to make the world a healthier and safer place. Drowning is a leading cause of unintentional death for children worldwide.

With a shared mission to provide opportunities in the sport of swimming to people of all ages and abilities, Michael was officially named a Special Olympics Global Ambassador in 2011. That year, the Michael Phelps Foundation IM Program became the Official Swimming Program for Special Olympics and expanded the program to include people with varying intellectual abilities.
Drowning is a leading cause of accidental death for children, and many of these tragedies can be prevented with the right education and safety practices. The Michael Phelps Foundation works tirelessly to make water safety a priority by educating communities, providing access to swimming lessons, and offering critical resources that save lives.
